WILLIAMSON COUNTY GUITAR SOCIETY OFFERS FREE ONLINE CLASSES FOR SENIORS

Senior University is proud to share this amazing opportunity for anyone 55 years and older. The Williamson County Guitar Society is offering free classical guitar lessons.

“Playing the classical guitar is a terrific activity for our aging neurology,”

WILCO County Guitar Society President, Kevin Taylor

President of Williamson County Guitar Society, Kevin Taylor, announces,“with the pandemic, our inaugural concert season had to be postponed. But now we have awakened from that challenge and wish to outreach into the Williamson County community with the most valuable of activities – bringing the activity of actually playing the classical guitar to a dozen seniors who have never played – or believed they couldn’t learn to play – the classical guitar.”

The 1st semester will be free to interested seniors and will last through January. “Playing the classical guitar is a terrific activity for our aging neurology,” says Taylor. “We are looking for people who love music, the guitar and never had a chance to learn.

“Our classes and material will be geared toward beginners. We want to get people started on the learning curve to this beautiful discipline,” says Taylor. “Of course, participants must have the right instruments and equipment to take advantage of the excellent instruction we will be offering. If they contact us, we can let them know what is needed.” The beginning class will be offered free to the first 12 people who contact Wilco Guitar at wilcoguitarsociety@gmail.

The classes will be taught by Dr. Chad Ibison and Dr. Janet Grohovac. Dr. Ibison teaches at Texas Lutheran University and Dr. Grohovac is head of the guitar Dept. at Concordia University. “We are thrilled that these great players and teachers can undertake this unique project for the residents of Georgetown. Music-making is one of the great gifts of life and the Wilco Guitar Society wants to bring that gift to Georgetown!” says Taylor.

The Williamson County Guitar Society is 501 (c) (3) organization. For more information see: www.wilcoguitar.org.
